Trailer Hitch Guide

Trailer hitches can be divided into several categories.

Weight-carrying hitches take all of the weight of the trailer’s tongue and put it straight down on the suspension, while weight-distributing hitches have spring bars that transfer some of the trailer’s weight forward onto the front tires. Gooseneck and 5th wheel hitches are the preferred hitch for larger, heavier trailers. They put all of the trailer’s tongue weight directly over the truck’s rear axle.
