Motorsports: Y’all Ready For Racing?

President Scott Atherton discusses the 2020 IMSA series and its comprehensive schedule for the coming WeatherTech and Pilot seasons. Of course we also have to listen to a load of ‘stuff’ about ‘sustainability’i.e. ‘electrification’, which in my view, is a waste of time and money. That said, it is what it is, even though the domestic consumer powerplant market is currently flat, holding somewhere between 1% and 2% of the total auto market, and this sales penetration is likely to continue for the foreseeable future.

As a practical impact this means that all the development money major ACO/FIA brands are spending on ‘alternative’ R&D for nextgen vehicles will be great, but in the end, they’ll just end up building engines that American customers won’t give a hoot about, particularly since the US is now the leading net exporter of fossil fuel and natural gas. So, if you live and race in North America, keep your ICEs handy, because whether they like it or not, fossil fuel engines aren’t going anywhere, and neither will big bore sportscar racing.
